Self-drive or public transport. Road is tarred until the last 7 km, which is gravel and usually takes 30–45 minutes. A 4×4 is not required; a high-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended (locals also use standard cars). Do not rely on Google Maps—mobile data often drops after entering Lesotho; use the lodge’s own written directions from Van Rooyen’s Gate or Maseru Bridge. Public transport: daily minibus taxis from Maseru and Mafeteng. Border posts: from Bloemfontein/the south, Van Rooyens Hek / Wepener (06:00–22:00; quieter); from the north, Maseru Bridge (24 hours; can be busy). Other northern options: Caledon’s Poort, Ficksburg, and Peka Bridge (08:00–16:00). From Johannesburg (recommended): N1 south toward Bloemfontein → R701 via Dewetsdorp and Wepener → Van Rooyenshek border. Driving in Lesotho is slow (80 km/h; 50 km/h through towns/villages).
