Queensburgh sits roughly 15 kilometres south-west of central Durban, within the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. It developed primarily as a working-class and middle-income residential area during the twentieth century, and today it functions largely as a suburban community rather than a tourist destination in its own right. That said, its position along the N3 and M7 routes gives visitors easy access to a wide range of attractions in the greater Durban area.

The suburb is made up of several smaller neighbourhoods including Malvern, Escombe, Moorton, and Bellair. Each has its own character, though the overall feel is residential and low-key. Local amenities include shopping centres, schools, and community parks, which makes the area practical for longer stays where self-catering is preferred.

For travellers using Queensburgh as a base, the Bluff and Amanzimtoti beaches are within a 20 to 30 minute drive. The Pavilion Shopping Centre in Westville is also close by, as is the Durban Botanic Gardens and the uShaka Marine World complex on the Durban beachfront. The Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga is accessible within 40 minutes under normal traffic conditions.

Queensburgh accommodation tends to be more affordable than options closer to the Durban beachfront or the northern suburbs, which suits travellers on a budget or those visiting family in the area. Guesthouses and self-catering units are the most common types of accommodation available in the suburb.

The area is well connected by road, and the King Shaka International Airport is approximately 50 kilometres to the north via the N2. Travellers arriving by air and heading further inland toward the Midlands or the Drakensberg often pass through or near Queensburgh, making it a convenient overnight stop on longer journeys through KwaZulu-Natal.
