De Kelders is a quiet coastal village in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, set along the cliffs of Walker Bay. It lies just north of Gansbaai and approximately 25 minutes from Hermanus, offering a peaceful seaside setting with easy access to nearby towns.

The area is predominantly residential, popular with holidaymakers and long-term residents who value privacy, space and uninterrupted sea views. Streets are calm and uncrowded, creating a relaxed and secure atmosphere ideal for coastal living.

De Kelders is renowned for its dramatic natural surroundings, including rugged cliffs, coastal paths and the Walker Bay Nature Reserve. The village is named after its limestone caves, which form part of the unique coastal landscape and include sites of archaeological significance.

It is one of the best land-based whale-watching locations in South Africa, with Southern Right Whales frequently visible close to shore during the season. The surrounding coastline is also rich in marine life, with Gansbaai internationally recognised for shark-cage diving and ocean activities.

Local shops, restaurants and essential services are located a short drive away in Gansbaai, while the R43 provides convenient road access to Hermanus and the wider Overberg region. The climate is mild and coastal, with warm summers and cooler winters typical of the South African south coast.
