Three non-smoking rooms with self-catering facilities. The West Wing is largest with private entrance, veranda, king or twin singles, en suite and kitchenette. The French Room is for couples with deck and en suite shower. The Snug is a garden unit with two single beds on different levels. Serviced daily.

A 12 m pool, veranda, lounge, braai facilities and conservatory for family dining. Wi-Fi. Cooked English or Health breakfast 7 to 9 am, packed breakfast for early departures. Home-cooked dinner by arrangement at extra charge. Garden trampoline, swings and jungle gym. Visa and MasterCard accepted.

Athlone, northern Pietermaritzburg. About 10 minutes from the CBD and Hilton, 20 minutes from Midmar Dam, 45 minutes from Durban, 1½ hours from the Drakensberg. One minute from Grey's Hospital, two minutes from Cascades Shopping Centre. Near Botanical Gardens, Tala Game Reserve, Howick Falls and the Midlands Meander.
