Gwahumbe Game & Spa offers bush lodge accommodation on a private game reserve in malaria-free Mid-Illovo, KZN, about 1 hour from Durban.

Accommodation

Options include Serengeti catered 2-sleeper units, self-catered Zebra Lodge for 4–7, Stone Chat 2-sleeper, Eagle's Nest 8-sleeper, Riverbend 6-sleeper, Hippo Campsite with three self-catered sites, and Mzigi Bush Camp with five stilted 2-sleeper A-frame thatched huts. Meals and braai packs can be ordered in advance.

Facilities include an on-site spa, restaurant with organic garden produce, bar, swimming pool, boma restaurant, complimentary WiFi, labyrinth overlooking the valley, kids' play area with trampoline and jungle gym, table tennis and darts, and a function venue for conferences and private events.

Location & Surroundings

Private game reserve in malaria-free Mid-Illovo in the KZN Midlands, about 1 hour from Durban and 45 minutes from Pietermaritzburg. About 700ha within the 3,000ha Gwahumbe Valley at the confluence of the Umsunduze and Umgwahumbe Rivers. Wildlife includes birds, hippo, wildebeest, giraffe, zebra and antelope.
