Location & Surroundings

The communal conservancy movement in Namibia began in 1998 with the establishment of the first four. This initiative has seen remarkable growth, and today there are 86 registered conservancies across the country, encompassing nearly 20% of Namibia's total land area.

Complementing the conservancy model are community forests. These entities share a similar approach to resource management and often exist within the boundaries of a communal conservancy. Their specific role is to manage rights related to grazing and the extraction of natural resources within designated forest areas.
