Location & Surroundings

Damaraland was a name given to the north-central part of South West Africa, which later became Namibia, inhabited by the Damaras.

It was bordered roughly by Ovamboland in the north, the Namib Desert in the west, the Kalahari Desert in the east, and the Windhoek region in the south.

Named after the red torra rocks predominant in the area, Torra is one of the founding four conservancies formed in 1998. The conservancy landscape is a mix of hills, plains and wooded river valleys, including the scenic Huab River. Wildlife includes elephant, lion, leopard, black rhino, cheetah, ostrich, kudu, duiker, warthog, steenbok, gemsbok, springbok, giraffe, mountain zebra, klipspringer, spotted hyaena.
