Location & Surroundings

Nestled at the base of the Klein Drakensberg mountains, along the historic Selati railway, lies Hoedspruit. Its name, derived from the Afrikaans word for "hat creek," originates from a pioneer's impulsive decision to settle there after tossing his hat into the Sandspruit River. Today, Hoedspruit thrives as a premier eco-tourism hub, offering easy access to the Timbavati and Klaserie private game reserves and the Kruger National Park.

While retaining its rural charm, the town has evolved from a small settlement into a bustling destination, facilitated by its airport, which shares facilities with an air force base.
