The Farm has superb views into Lesotho with Hodgson's Peaks very prominent on clear days.

Located just outside Himeville along the scenic Sani Pass Road, District Road is a picturesque destination set against the dramatic backdrop of the Southern Drakensberg. This sheep and cattle farm has evolved into a vibrant sanctuary where guests can immerse themselves in mountain life. Whether visiting for a quiet retreat or a major event like the Glencairn Trail Run, the farm offers a welcoming atmosphere where animals like zebras, eland, and horses roam freely across the grasslands and near the lake.

The accommodation is designed to cater to various group sizes and preferences, blending modern comfort with rustic charm. Guests can choose between sleek rooms and stone cottages to comfortably accommodate solo travellers, couples, or families or groups. The cottages include a well-equipped kitchenette and cosy lounge areas, some with fireplaces. All units have private bathrooms and patios with garden views.

Beyond the comfortable rooms, the farm functions as a complete outdoor playground. The Pholela River and the expansive lake provide ample opportunity for fly-fishing, canoeing, and tubing, while the well-maintained trails are perfect for mountain biking, hiking, and trail running. On-site facilities include a "chill zone" in the main barn, a bar, and communal braai areas, making it easy to socialise. For a touch of luxury after a day of exploration, guests can even book on-site massages, ensuring a perfectly balanced stay in the heart of the Berg.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled at the foot of the Southern Drakensberg, Himeville is a serene gateway to the clouds that radiates old-world charm. Rows of ancient oaks line its quiet streets, leading the eye toward the jagged peaks of the Maloti-Drakensberg Park. This emerald-green village, often dusted with winter snow, offers a crisp mountain sanctuary where the pace of life slows to a restful crawl.

For the adventurous, Himeville serves as the ultimate base camp for tackling the legendary Sani Pass, a winding 4x4 track that climbs into the Kingdom of Lesotho. Those seeking a gentler rhythm can enjoy premier fly-fishing in crystal-clear dams or hike through local nature reserves teeming with eland and rare birdlife. The landscape is a playground for both the thrill-seeker and the naturalist.

The village's heart is found in its rustic stone architecture and rich history, anchored by a museum housed in a 19th-century fort. After a day of mountain exploration, visitors are drawn to the warmth of crackling fireplaces and the genuine hospitality of local inns. Whether for the high-altitude views or the quiet heritage, it remains a quintessential stop for any mountain traveller.
