Directions to Palala River Cottages
Directions
*Take the N1 highway from Johannesburg /Pretoria.
Turn off at the Kranskop Toll Plaza to Nylstroom/Modimolle. (Far left off- ramp).
Once off the N1 and at the top of the off- ramp, turn left towards Modimolle/Nylstroom.
Go through Nylstroom/Modimolle and continue on towards Vaalwater (± 70km).
In Vaalwater turn right at the stop street towards Melkriver.
For reservations at Kingfisher Cottage, Samia Cabin and Podica Bush Camp, please do use the below directions:
At the next stop street, the last one as you leave Vaalwater, continue straight and travel for ± 40km, where after you will see a dirt road marked Jembisa/Melkriver School/Lapalala. If your reservation is at Samia Cabin, Kingfisher Cottage or Podica Bush Camp,turn left on to this road. For reservations at our River Cottage, please do not turn here.
After ± 5km turn right (on the corner there is an old Cape Dutch farm house on the right hand side), and carry on with this road, going over a low water bridge. Continue on this road for about 5km. The road will bend to the right, with the Jembisa main gate just after the turn on the right hand side. See below for further details per unit.
Samia Cabin - The gate to Samia is directly opposite the Jembisa main gate. Please do go through the gate, closing it behind you, and head towards the cabin.
Kingfisher Cottage - Carry on past the Jembisa Main Gate, follow the road where it will go down a hill, and at the bottom of the hill the gate to Kingfisher Cottage will be on your right. Please do go through the gate, closing it behind you, and head towards the cottage.
Podica Bush Camp - Carry on past the Jembisa main gate, go down the hill and pass the Kingfisher gate, carry on with the road over a bridge, you will come to a gate - we will send you the gate code prior to arrival - go through the gate, please make sure it closes behind you, and follow the road to the bush camp - the rondavel number you are booked into will also be sent to you prior to arrival.
For reservations at our River Cottage, please do use the below directions:
River Cottage - Once you have left Vaalwater, continue straight on the Melkrivier road and travel for ± 46km, when you will come to a T-junction at the end of the road. Turn left at the T-junction and drive for ± 3km, you will see a River Cottage sign and a turn to your left onto a short gravel road, ending at a gate. The key will be left in a specific place, details of which will be sent to you prior to your arrival. Please unlock the gate, go through and re-lock the gate and take the keys with you, following the road to the cottage.
