Winterton is a small town nestled on the banks of the Tugela River in the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Established in 1905 as Springfield, it was later renamed to honour HD Winter, the then Secretary for Agriculture.

Serving as a gateway to the Champagne Valley and Cathedral Peak regions of the central Drakensberg, Winterton is surrounded by some of Southern Africa's most spectacular mountain scenery. The town is conveniently located on the R74 route between Bergville and the N3 highway, as well as the R600 between Ladysmith and the Central Drakensberg.

Winterton's proximity to the Drakensberg Boys' Choir School, located approximately 30 kilometres south-southwest of the town, adds a unique cultural dimension to the area. The town has grown in popularity as a tourist destination, attracting both local and international visitors.
